Clean drinking water: conserving and recuperating it

eau potableAccording to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), more than one billion people do not have access to clean drinking water and 3 billion people have no access to sanitation. Presently, 3 billion people, in 48 countries, are likely to suffer from water stress.

Living in a country of lakes and rivers, we believe that we will always have access to clean drinking water... Quebeckers are consuming more than 380 liters (100 gallons) of clean drinking water per person, per day: they are the leading consumers of water in the world. In the long term, in Quebec, this may lead to water shortages, an imbalance to aquatic ecosystems and a significant increase in the cost of water treatment.

Fortunately, there are simple ways to reduce one’s consumption of water at home.
